Please take the time to
pre-register for workshops. We have had to cancel
a couple workshops due to insufficient enrollment (and at-the-door
registrants were met with a locked door)--and other workshops have
tripled in size due to last minute, walk-in registrants. We
want to be prepared with enough handouts for everyone--and a
room large enough to comfortably accommodate all attendees. Please
let us know by Monday night prior to a workshop via Email to YEAH@mtn.org
if you will be attending, and how many. (FYI: We do not have
internet or phone access during the day on Tuesday, so we need to
hear from you by Monday night.) All registrations received
after the Saturday prior to a workshop need to add a $10.00 per
registration late fee. Thank you for your consideration to
all involved--registrars, presenters and all attendees--in taking
time to pre-register!

child's--learning style. Parental couples are encouraged to

| Class Size Limit: |
TBD minimum; TBD maximum |
|
| Prerequisite: |

| Class Type: |
Four different workshop sessions, One evening each |
|
|
Class Description: |
|
|
|
Each Learning Styles workshop
will build upon the previous one; however each one will also
stand alone. Participants can attend one or two--or all
four workshops.
Do you often ask your child these
questions: How many times do I have to tell you this?
What did I just say? Didn't you hear what I just said?
Your child probably did hear the words
you said, but did not understand what you meant. We each
take in information in a different way--and then we do something
different in the way that we use the information we
perceive. We each learn in our own special way, with our
own unique "learning style."
Everyone has a learning style, but each
person's is different--like fingerprints. Learning style
is the way that students of every age are affected by their
environment, own emotions, social needs, physical
characteristics and personality traits when concentrating and
trying to master and remember new or difficult information or
skills. Children learn best only when they use their
learning style advantageously; otherwise they study, but often
forget what they tried to learn.
One of the keys to understanding your
child's potential, to help them be all that they can be, is to
discover his/her unique learning style so as to understand how
your child really learns. It is as important to know how
your child learns as what she is learning.
Descriptions for the
Complete Set of Learning Styles Workshops
TBD - Workshop # 1:
Visual, Auditory & Kinesthetic Learners. How
do we identify our child's learning style? By knowing
about these different styles, we gain a much better
understanding of how they react in an educational setting. This
workshop will explore methods and teaching tips for each type of
learner. Understanding the kinesthetic learner cannot be
understated. Many children who are labeled
"hyperactive" are not; they are kinesthetic learners
who need a different style of teaching, not unnecessary
medication.
(Registration and payment due by Friday before workshop)
TBD - Workshop # 2: Brain
Dominance. The "academic" learner
vs. the "creative" learner--or right brain-left
brain dominance difference--is an important element in how
one learns. Which brain dominance are you? Is your
child a right brain learner? If so, then how should you
teach them? This workshop will provide eye opening
information that could revolutionize your teaching--and maybe
your life! (Registration and payment due by Friday before
workshop):
TBD- Workshop # 3: Concrete-Abstract-Sequential-Random
Learners. Still have questions about the learning
style of your child? This workshop is often the key to
those still unanswered questions. It introduces 4 types of
learners and how each of them approaches their education: the
academically indifferent, step-by-step predictable learners,
knowledge acquirers and the people pleasers. We will examine the
studies of Dr. Anthony Gregoric whose model provides invaluable
insights into how our minds perceive and understand
information. (Registration and payment due by Friday
before workshop) TBD -
Workshop # 4: Mind Maps I. Many
"creative" learners, parents and children alike,
struggle with time management and organization. This very
hands-on, colorful workshop will focus on an alternative method
that can be used in every area of your life to help it become
more organized--from getting your child to clean his bedroom to
getting assignments completed on time. (Registration and payment due
by Friday before workshop)

Are you resigned to the fact that attending
college is expensive? Most of us hope for the best:
scholarships and financial aid, yet try to prepare for the
worst: how to repay huge student loans. There is another
way. Since many introductory college courses are just a
repeat of those studied in high school, your student can earn
college credits for those courses while in high school--and you
can cut your college costs in half!
This workshop includes:
- Thinking outside of the box--options
to consider
- Credit by Exam--a very inexpensive and
efficient way to achieve college credit through testing
programs such as CLEP and Dante
- Middle/High school--how to combine
earning college credits with your homeschool courses.
- Scheduling and studying for
exams--effective techniques and free resources including
free exams.
- PSEO and the MN Transfer
Curriculum--combine these options with CBE and open up many
more future options.
- The Gap Years: Graduating early. . .
now what?
- Regional Accreditation --How to
"bank" and transfer credits to the college of your
choice.
- Setting a course--earn a year of
credits before 11th grade, or simply save hundreds of
dollats by passing just one exam--and where to begin.
- Degree for $6,000.00--take the
independent-study approach all the way through and have a
college diploma in hand by age 18!

families about the practicalities and possibilities of earning
Credit by Exam before college. Her middle daughter
earned 30 credits in 9th grade and her oldest son will
graduate with a B.A. in History by his high school senior year
for a cost of less than $6,000.00.
