Fall 2011-2012 Schedule of PSEO at YEAH classes & Course Descriptions

~ PSEO at YEAH MISSION STATEMENT ~

PSEO at YEAH was created to provide academically challenging curricula taught from a Christian world view in an atmosphere that is nurturing, supportive and endorsing of the values of home educating students and their parents.

As home school parents, we take great care in the planning of our precious children's educational curriculum as well as the selection of outside instructors who we know will influence our children not only academically, but also socially and spiritually.

As home school parents, we diligently work at the selection of a post high school college or university that we believe is best suited not only for our children's educational needs and goals, but one that will also positively influence their life choices in careers and friendships for the future.

At YEAH (Youth Educated At Home), we believe that the same care and planning should go into the selection of a child's PSEO curriculum and instructors which will influence not only the developing child's educational studies, but also will greatly influence their social and spiritual lives both now and in the future.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS & INSTRUCTORS

Courses confirmed for 2011-12

INSTRUCTORS: Follow links on course descriptions to tutor and adjunct professor bios

COURSE APPLICATION & TRANSFERABILITY

  • Common Questions asked by PSEO students and their parents.

    • How will my PSEO courses apply to an AA or 4-year degree at North Central University or Northwestern College?

    • How--and will--my PSEO courses transfer if I decide to attend another college or university?

    • What are Minnesota Transfer credits--and how important are they to consider in my course decisions?

  • Answers to assist you in this discovery process:

    • Acceptance and transfer of credits varies per college.  If you are interested in a specific college, be sure to ask admissions about their policy. (Source: www.getreadyforcollege.org)

    • Minnesota Transfer credits apply to how credits will transfer specifically to MNSCU (Minnesota State College Universities). Transfer guides may be available for private colleges or the University of Minnesota on the Minnesota Transfer website. (Source: http://www.mnscu.edu/students/admissions/transfer.htm/

    • PSEO courses provide a wonderful opportunity to check out areas of interest for you before you commit to a college or a major or minor program.  Because PSEO is a Dual Enrollment program, earning BOTH high school and college credit, consider taking courses for purely enjoyment or exploration before you are paying full college tuition.

  • Information to assist you in your choices is offered for the PSEO at YEAH courses:

    • Course Application at college/university offering the course/credit (NCU or NWC) is from their course catalogs

    • Transferability as it relates to Minnesota Transfer Credit Categories for General Education has been derived from a recent investigative survey of multiple MNSCU websites.

    • This data is meant to be a general guideline and does not imply or guarantee transfer of NCU or NWC credits to any institution; acceptance and transfer of credits varies per college and is also dependent on a course equivalent being offered at that school.

These two courses are designed to expose students to the wide ranges of styles and artists working and living from the prehistoric period through the Renaissance period (Art Appreciation I - fall) and Renaissance period through the Modern period (Art Appreciation II - spring).  Through coursework, museum visits and papers, the student will gain first hand knowledge of the styles and mediums that make up these vibrant periods.

Museum visits will help students gain first hand knowledge of some of the art produced by the people and cultures that will be covered.  Tests and papers will help students express opinions on the artwork and artists studied as well as confirm the acquisition of knowledge.  We will look at the social, political, and cultural context of various artworks and how the art reflects the culture and the religion of the time.  This is largely a historical look at art but media, techniques and design elements will also be discussed.

Course Objectives:
