Course Description:
This class is
the perfect introduction to theatre for the young performer and
is designed to give the student experience in as many aspects of
theatre as possible. Taught in a fast-paced and high
energy format, students will get a variety of hands-on
experiences and a well-rounded introduction into the history of
theatre, stage crafts, acting, improvisation, ensemble work,
voice control, behind-the-scenes information and more.
This is a great class for both those students interested in
heading into performance acting as well as those who are just
interested in learning more about theatre

Course Description:
Level I Acting Technique:
The focus of this year-long course is
to learn basic acting technique (performing effective
entrances and exits, crosses and turns, transitions, stage
business, learn stage terminology, hone listening skills,
and work as an ensemble). This is a high energy and
fun class and students must be willing to actively
participate.
No acting experience is necessary to
enroll--however, students with previous acting experience
will learn how to apply what they already know and take
acting a step further.
SEMESTER ONE (fall semester):
Students will spend their time learning basic acting skills
by participating in concentrated theatre games and creating
a performance piece for the Showcase to be performed the
final day of class. This is a very active class and
full participation is required.
SEMESTER TWO (spring semester):
Students will develop more complex acting skills by
exploring language through improvisation and text-driven
material. They will learn to enhance their acting
skills such as concentration, focus, observation,
relaxation, ensemble work, and physical and vocal
awareness. This class requires students to actively
participate, learn lines and explore the psychology of the
characters they will be portraying in small group scenes.

Course Description:
Level II Character Development:
The course builds upon the skills and
techniques developed in Level I Acting, through focused
approaches to character creation and acting styles.
Both semesters emphasize tools and skills in building a
character.
SEMESTER ONE (fall semester):
Students examine, through more advanced improvisational
exercises and dramatic age-appropriate literature,
spontaneous interaction, inner monologue, and
wants/actions/obstacles. We will concentrate our
learning by working on an age-appropriate play from an award
winning playwright. Students will begin to understand
objectives and intentions of a character and gain the
ability to communicate this effectively to an audience.
SEMESTER TWO (spring semester):
Students will investigate the physical life of a character
through mask work, together with the technical and
imaginative development of voice and body skills as a means
of creating characterizations. They will do an
in-depth study of a Greek play and create a character
analysis while finding the motivation through action.

Course Description:

Acting Level III
Semester One / Fall: This very
important class for the young actor will focus on
improvisational situations to encourage students to discover
how to make strong character choices, learn how to emphasize
the through-line in a scene and to communicate their choices
clearly to the audience using their entire body. Using
movement-based exercises to explore the primary fundamentals
of improvisation, we will also focus on the actor's physical
space which will help the actor know how to express the
character's objectives through movement. Students MUST
be willing to actively participate.
Semester Two / Spring: The second
semester of Level III students will take what they have
learned from all of the previous levels and get hands-on
experience while working on a performance of a ONE ACT
play. This semester's curriculum will also cover
various aspects of technical theatre and a general
understanding of the history of theatre

Course Description:
Advanced Scene Study Lab:
This advanced acting class covers a
vast array of acting styles and philosophies.
Throughout the year we will study different acting methods
of the great teachers (Stanislavski, Meisner, Uta Hagen,
Strassburg and Stella Adler) and will apply some of these
techniques to chosen dramatic scenes and monologues.
Students should be prepared to read
and discuss a variety of scripts/scenes throughout the year.
This class is a great way to
experience which technique works best for each student.
The class size will remain small (a
maximum of 8) so that students can experience more
concentrated attention. Register early.

Directing Lab:
Students interested in directing plays will learn the basic
elements of directing (composition, picturization, pantomimic
dramatization, movement, rhythm, tempo) by following and
actively participating in a step-by-step process with the
class. Each concept is learned progressively and the
approach is completely experiential allowing their own personal
directly style to emerge. Students will direct their
classmates and present it for their final project throughout the
year.

Shakespeare Unlocked: Do you
find Shakespeare plays to be confusing? Tedious?
Repetitious? Through scenes, play readings and numerous
exercises, this in-depth scene-study, the class will magically
unlock he Shakespearean language so that the actor can easily
portray the rich characters that are written on the page.
Once you understand the Shakespearean "code" you will
easily understand character intentions and also learn an
entirely new style of acting. There will be a final
presentation on the last day of class each semester. Class
size is limited to 12, so register early.
