Put pen to paper and prepare to write! This creative writing course helps students overcome writer's block and strengthens the individual's voice and style. All of the basics--grammar and mechanics, sentence structure, and punctuation--are covered in context as students explore a wide variety of topics.
A cultural project, the highlight of the semester, allows students to explore a country of their choice as they learn how to
polish a series of different essays: description, narration, comparison and contrast, exposition, current event, and biographical research. Spring semester continues to capture this creative energy with unit studies in short story, mystery, humor, and poetry. Both semesters use literature as springboards for the student's success. Writers from all experience levels are welcome.

Capture the love of writing! In this
course, students learn how to bring writing to life through
assignments designed to energize and motivate. Through
topics like extreme sports, incredible escapes, and conspiracy
theories, students learn how to communicate and refine their
writing styles. Throughout this course, they will learn to
build their writing, starting with a solid paragraph that grows
into a strong essay, complete with an introduction, body, and
conclusion. Regardless of the student's past experience
with essays, this course will build the student's confidence in
developing and communicating his or her own ideas. Our
various forms of writing include the descriptive, expository,
and persuasive responses, along with the short story, journal
entry, and editorial response. Assignments develop basic
research skills. Each response is critiqued in context
based on grammar, mechanics, and content.
