Educational Skills I (High School)

Full Year Course

This full year course is not open to mid-year entry of new students.

Class Type: Full Year  

Class Description:

   
A study of learning styles, note taking, goal planning, time management, how to study for tests, introduction to careers, study skills, transcripts and portfolios, classroom tests, and very basic research writing.

Total Due:
     $195.00 per semester 
All course materials are provided by the tutor, including a tutor-compiled manual. No additional text is needed.
Payment Options: $195.00 due with Registration per semester - paid in full per semester at the time of registration.

Post High School Transitions

Fall Semester

This class was formerly call "Educational Skills II" - name change only, content remains the same!

Target Group: 10th - 12th Grades - (Tutor recommended ideal time to take this course is the fall of a student's 11th grade)  
Class Size Limit: 5 minimum  
Prerequisite: none  
Class Type: One Semester - offered fall semester  

Class Description:

   
This one semester class focuses on the two typical paths that students take after high school.  Topics include job applications, resumes, and job interviewing;  college planning and exploration, college standardized testing, college application, activities resume, and essay; and a brief exploration of alternatives to those two options.  This class will make at least two college visits during classes and depending on interest, a college visit outside of the Twin Cities on a non-class day. 

Total Due:  $195.00 per semester (All course materials are provided by the tutor, including a tutor-compiled manual.  No additional course text is needed.

Educational Skills for Personal Finance  

Spring Semester

This course is OPEN to NEW students for spring.  No PQ.

Target Group: 10th - 12th Grades -   
Class Size Limit: Maximum of 16 students.  
Prerequisite: None - but recommended to follow Educational Skills II (see course description above)   
NOTE: To get the maximum benefit from this course, it is strongly recommended that students have some income from an allowance and/or from part time jobs (including lawn mowing or babysitting) to better understand banking and personal budgeting.   

Class Type:

 One Semester - offered spring semester  
Class Description:
This course covers information that students will need to be financially literate.  Topics include attitudes about money, advertising, budgeting, consumer comparisons, insurance, taxes, banking (savings and credit), recordkeeping, buying a car, beginning investing, rental and phone contracts, computer and phone scams, and privacy issues.  We will begin with an overview of percentages.  Students will be provided with a textbook, workbook, notebook and tabs.  Students should bring a calculator to class.
