This course will take its participants on a
journey around the world and challenge them to "think
geographically" while learning about the interesting and
unique characteristics of the continents. We will study
the important physical features of the world, the people in it,
and their cultures. Students will also develop map reading
skills, gain knowledge in atlas usage, and learn key
geographical terms. They will create their own unique
geography notebooks throughout the semester and complete the
class with an interactive "country close-up"
event. Being a good memorizer is not required in order to
succeed in this class. Ultimately, the goal of this course
is to give students a foundation, whet their appetites, and
motivate them to be lifelong students of geography.
World Geography & Cultures is a a
good thematic whole language unit study to incorporate with
other Monday YEAH Academy courses such as World
Art & Cultures and World
Literature and Cultures. This course is also a good
complement to courses in World and/or American History.
