American History - Junior High 

Full Year Course

Class Description:

   
"Pilgrims, Patriots and Presidents" - the focus of this course is the history of America and how it fits into the larger global historical picture, while emphasizing the contributions of the Pilgrims, the Patriots and the Presidents of the United States of America.  The easy-to-read texts, presented in story-type format, serve as a springboard for each unit.  In addition to the texts, this course uses supplemental literature, map activities and various hands-on projects.  Parents will need to administer and grade chapter tests.  Using visual and oral projects and hands-on tutorial methods, this course promises to make history come alive for the students. 

Semester I (Fall)--TEXT & TESTS: 

  • Text: "The Story of the World--Volume 3: Early Modern Times: From Elizabeth the First to the Forty-Niners" by Susan Wise Bauer.  ISBN: 0-9714129-9-5.  History of the World from 1600 to 1850. 
  • Tests: Volume Three Tests and Answer Key. Parents will need to administer and grade chapter tests.
  • In addition to the texts, we will branch out into additional literature and readings, map activities and various projects.  

Semester II (Spring)--TEXT & TESTS: 

  • Text: "The Story of the World--Volume 4: The Modern Age: From Victoria's Empire to the End of the USSR" by Susan Wise Bauer.  ISBN: 0-9714129-9-5.  History of the World from 1850 to 2000. 
  • Tests: Volume Four Tests and Answer Key. Parents will need to administer and grade chapter tests.
  • In addition to the texts, we will branch out into additional literature and readings, map activities and various projects.  

Students to provide: 3 ring notebook, markers, highlighters, loose leaf paper (wide lined), scissors, 10-15 gel pens, pencils and pens.  Optional: colored pencils for map work.


Total Due:  $200.00 per semester  Includes tutor provide materials
Payment Options: $200. 00 due with Registration per semester - paid in full per semester at the time of registration.

 United States History

USA HISTORY

This course will be offered concurrently with AP United States History. Registrations are currently being taken for students already enrolled in PSEO at YEAH.

Course Description:

This course consists of a survey of American history from the period of European exploration through the Civil War; from the Reconstruction period (1866-1877) in the South after the Civil War (1861-1865) to the present day.  Political history will be emphasized; all subdivisions of history (e.g. African-American, cultural, diplomatic, economic, Native-American, religious, social, and women's history will receive attention.

This course is intended to provide a broad historical and cultural background of potential utility to all students living out their vocations as Christians, whether "religious" or "secular."  Students will be exposed to cultural, diplomatic, economic, political, and religious events that have shaped contemporary America.  Americans regularly live today with the effects of events covered in this course.

Texts and Required Materials:

  • Give Me Liberty, An American History, Eric Foner, W.W. Norton & Company (volumes 1 and 2--2nd edition)--purchase as one text, although available as two.

American History - Senior High

 Full Year Course

This course has being developed but is not available for 2011-12; students are encouraged to explore the AP United States History or United States History courses for students in grades 10-12.

Class Description:

   
In his farewell address, Ronald Reagan said if we forget what we have done, we will forget who we are.  We all need to know about this land we love.  Using visual and oral projects, hands-on tutorial methods, and online resources and activities, this class will discover the history of our nation, who chose to lead us and what they did with the awesome power given to them.  The text is accompanied by am online interactive website called the Roadmap, which provides terms, timelines, laws, treaties, historical maps, a quiz center and much more.  To view all of the content for the Roadmap, students will need a internet connection, Flash player and Adobe Acrobat Reader.  The site is best viewed using the latest version of Firefox.

Student is responsible for purchasing text, tests, supplies listed above and the on-line Roadmap subscription. 

Students provide: 3-ring notebook, markers, 2 black (fine point) Sharpie pens, highlighters (6+ colors), loose leaf paper (wide-lined), pencils, pens and 10-15 gel pens.  Optional: colored pencils (for map work).
