Math for the Creative Learner I
(for Grades 5-8) -
For the artist, musician, actor, athlete or right-brain learner who struggles with math and often thinks "outside the box." Using art, music, movement and humor this course will be going "back to the basics" with special emphasis on math vocabulary, word problems,
place value fractions, decimals and percents.. Course will include whole body, hands-on and visual-spatial learning methods for student to use on their assignments.
Courses use techniques in art, music and movement, reviewing basic math concepts with special emphasis on math vocabulary, fractions, decimals and percents.

Student Must Supply: 3 ring binder (1" minimum), loose
leaf graph paper (200 sheets), 10+ gel pens. loose leaf (wide-lined) paper, pencils & small sharpener, 1 box classic-colored markers (10/box), 1 box fine tip colored markers (10/box), 1 black Sharpie marker, ruler,
scissors, 1 set of hi-lighters (at least 6 different colors)
Tutor provides: notebook dividers, course handouts, calculators, folders, clipboards,
manipulatives, games and many hands-on materials.
NOTE from tutor: As with all Academy courses, the tutor reserves the option of final student admission into this course. For the student whose math skills and interest levels are typically fine, but the parent simply wishes some tutorial assistance, this class may not be a good fit. We recommend that you consider registering for the Tuesday
Algebra 1/2 or Algebra 1 with Sara Ryan, pending that her pre-requisites have been met.

II (for Grades 6-8) - Course is a continuation of Level I and is offered if
minimum number of registered students who have successfully
completed Math for the Creative Learner I has been
established. Course is a continuation of Math Creative
Learner I. Pre-requisite is satisfactory completion of Level I with the
tutor.
Text: 2 workbooks (one per semester) - provided by
tutor.
Student Must Supply: 3 ring binder (1" minimum), loose
leaf graph paper (200 sheets), 10+ gel pens. loose leaf (wide-lined) paper, pencils & small sharpener, 1 box classic-colored markers (10/box), 1 box fine tip colored markers (10/box), 1 black Sharpie marker, ruler,
scissors, 1 set of hi-lighters (at least 6 different colors)

place value, fractions, decimals and percents. Course will include whole body, hands-on and visual-spatial learning methods for student to use on their assignments.
NOTE from tutor: Please make sure that this course is a good fit for your
student. As with all Academy courses, the tutor reserves the option of final student admission into this
course and reserves the right to not keep a student in class due
to average or above average math skills. For the student whose math skills and interest levels are typically fine, but the parent simply wishes some tutorial assistance, this class may not be a good fit.
