This course is a study of the history of the Western world in relation to the Christian Church from apostolic times to the present. Emphasis is on the development of institutions, traditions, doctrine, ideas, expansion, the relationship of church and state, denominationalism and sectarianism, and the
interactions of the church with secular and intellectual movements. The timeline covers church history through the eras of the Holy Roman Empire, the Medieval period, the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, and on into the Twentieth Century.

Academy tutorial class time will be spent discussing concepts covered in the DVD’s and texts and assistance in preparing for tests and the book review due for the course. Mrs. Baumhoefner will bring additional insight into the class to include components of Art History, World History and Biblical studies. Also analyzed will be the relevance of the study of Christian Church history as it pertains to modern-day topics such as the Jesus Seminar or the Gnostic Gospels as
presented in The Gospel of Thomas, The Gospel of Judas, as well as such books as The DaVinci Code, etc. We will discuss how we can use our studies from this historical course in our everyday Christian lives. College-Prep study skills are an important element.
CRITICAL: Before registering for
any PSEO courses, but specifically those tutorials at The
Academy, make sure that the student's schedule can accommodate
at least 15 hours PER WEEK to devote to work on this PSEO
