Class Description:
This course teaches care for adults,
children and infants: rescue breathing,
single-and two-rescuer CPR, and use of resuscitation mask, bag-valve-mask
(BVM) resuscitator, disposable gloves, and automated external
defibrillator (AED). In addition, you will practice
bandaging and splinting and learn a plan of action to recognize
and deal with these emergencies: unconsciousness, bleeding;
broken bones; head, neck and back injuries; sudden illness,
including stroke, diabetic emergencies, seizures, fainting and
poisoning. Each student will have a research paper on a
related topic.

Nutrition for Life is a one semester
course providing an introduction to the basics of nutrition and
the primary information needed to make informed decisions that
will promote health. A presentation of the building blocks
of nutrients (including protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins,
minerals, and water) will include some discussions on the
current arguments in nutrition science. Lab activities
include some in-class activities as well as home projects in
food preparation.
*PQ of a Physical Science course for
entering students is required because 1) there will be some
chemistry involved and students must have prior study of the
periodic tables and 2) experience in the ability to follow lab
instructions is essential.
