This course will examine the ABC’s of the human experience:
Affect (feelings and emotions), Behavior (how and why we act as we do), and
Cognition (thinking). Consideration is given to the concepts of learning, motivation, emotions, perception, intelligence, and personality. Counseling techniques are also explored. A video prepared by the Psychology Department of Northwestern College accompanies this course to enhance the students understanding of various topics. Students are required to view the entire videotape and complete weekly assignment as homework before class each week. This course is designed for one semester and will follow Northwestern’s format with time allotments and topic sequence as listed below.
Academy tutorial class time will be spent discussing concepts covered in the DVD’s and texts and assistance in preparing for tests, required assignments, and timeline due for the course. Mrs. Chara will bring additional insight into the class to include actual counseling examples that relate to the text material and related fields of psychology and complete class activities that assist the students in comprehending psychological concepts. Students will have the opportunity to practice with actual test questions from a test bank file.
CRITICAL: Before registering for
any PSEO course, but specifically for those tutorials at The
Academy, make sure the student's schedule can accommodate at
least 15 hours PER WEEK to devote to work on this course.
The Academy tutorials will stay on track and it is the
expectation for all students to do the same. (Reminder: Out
of fairness to those who are on-task, students who do not have
course lessons completed prior to the week that information is
covered at The Academy may have restricted access to course
discussion.)

ONLINE
Registration changes
for NWC PSEO: This notice has been sent out to
current students: Northwestern College is changing the
registration procedure for Spring 2009. Students will
register ONLINE for courses instead of submitting
registrations by mail. An email detailing their new
procedure was sent to students who had enrolled in PSEO
classes through NWC during Fall of 2008. Parents and
students are encouraged to carefully follow the instructions
given in that email to be sure students are correctly
registered for classes for Spring. If you have any
questions about the NWC registration procedure, contact the
distance education office at NWC directly at contact
information above. (NOTE: this email was sent to the student's
NWC email address only. Due to student privacy policies,
it cannot be given out to parents of PSEO students.)
NWC
Distance Ed office location changes: This
past week, the Distance Ed office has moved for the 2nd time
in the past few months. They are no longer in the KTIS
building but have moved about two blocks south in a building
that to date says "Edina Realty" on it. They
are on the 2nd floor (although the directory places NWC on the
3rd floor). If you have questions or concerns, please
contact them at above contact information.
