NWC Course HIS 1005 - 4 credits NWC College Instructor:
Dr. Clyde Billington
A study of world civilization with emphasis upon the development of Western cultural tradition from ancient to modern times. Special attention is given to the Bible as a historical document and to the concepts of institutional development and cultural diffusion. Emphasis is on the interaction of Western institutions and ideas with the forces of the absolutism, enlightenment, revolution, industrialization, nationalism, liberalism, imperialism, Darwinism, militarism.

Academy tutorial class time will be spent discussing concepts covered in the videos and texts and assistance in preparing for tests due for the course. Mrs. Baumhoefner will incorporate her travel, and background in art history into the course. College-Prep study skills are an important element.
 

NOTE: This course now requires that all testing be completed on-line, no longer as open book exams. Students must be able to take their exams on-line.

CRITICAL: Before registering for any PSEO course, but specifically for those tutorials at The Academy, make sure the student's schedule can accommodate at least 15 hours PER WEEK to devote to work on this course.  The Academy tutorials will stay on track and it is the expectation for all students to do the same.  (Reminder: Out of fairness to those who are on-task, students who do not have course lessons completed prior to the week that information is covered at The Academy may have restricted access to course discussion.)

NEW for Fall 2008 - The following information was communicated to YEAH in September, 2008, by the Manager of Student Services of the Graduate and Continuing Education: The Center for Distance Education merged with FOCUS and the Center for Graduate Education and are now all part of the division of Graduate & Continuing Education (GCE) at Northwestern College.  There have been several staff changes since the merger.
